The war memorial to the men of Chingford who fell in the Great war was erected in 1921. The inscription reads: In grateful remembrance of the men of Chingford, who died in the service of their country in the Great War, 1914-1918. “We are the dead...To you, from failing hands, we throw the torch; Be yours to hold it high.”

Who is the chap in the middle of our website banner? He is Arthur Woodland & he is a great uncle of my wife. View more details on Arthur and the other men that I have researched so far by clicking on the Book Of Honour link on the left or click Here

Search for your relative using the box below

Rear PanelThere are 242 names commemorated on this memorial, this site intends to show, the people behind the names. Go to the Book Of Honour from the link on the left. The information gathered about each of the men has been gathered from a variety of sources and public records Such as the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, archive material and plain old fashioned research. If one of the men listed on this memorial is a relative of yours, or you have additional information that you would like added onto their own Book Of Remembrance page, then please by all means contact me and I shall add it on.

Apart form the men commemorated on the Chingford War Memorial I wanted a place whereby I could remember and share details, of other casualties of the Great War. Our database is growing all the time so check back often! Check out our News Page for the latest updates and success stories!

Unfortunately there was not enough room on the memorial to add the names of those who gave their lives in World War II. Below the main panel is inscribed "And those who lost their lives 1939 - 1945". We have created a book of honour so that those people may be remembered too. If you would like to add your relatives details then contact me or view the World War II casualties here.
